What you will need... Before proceeding, you must download my zzCanonG2 profiles (download page is here->) and linear workflow profiles from www.aim-dtp.net. You can find link to download AIM Profiles at page http://www.aim-dtp.net/aim/photoshop/v6/color-settings.htm but you may also use site search (search link is at the bottom of the left menu). All profiles should be installed in system color directory - this is OS dependent so probably best way to find it is to search for *.icc or *.icm files and then copy all new profiles where other files are. Photoshop Setup In Photoshop go to Edit/Color Settings and adjust marked settings like this:
That's all - you are ready for linear workflow.
Sample workflow Convert your raw file to 16 bit Linear TIFF and open it in PhotoShop. You will be prompted to assign profile:
Your image will look soft and maybe with less contrast then you expected. Beside this, if you feel that image needs some other processing (like saturation increase for example) now is the time to do it. If you are preparing this image for Web, final steps should be: Resizing, then sharpening. Here, you can use any sharpening tool you like but I suggest that you try simple Photoshop unsharp mask. Amount depends on the image size - if you resized image for Web (I resize to 1/3 of the original) then try these settings:
Now convert image to profile suitable for web, use Image/Mode/Convert to profile:
IMPORTANT: Your image may still look bit washed out - these profiles cover complete tonal range G2 is capable off and, depending of the scene, you must manually set black/white points. Use Levels dialog and left and right sliders:
Finally, convert image to 8 bit and save as jpeg. |
